MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Continuing his overhaul of City Hall now in his second month in office, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas has appointed a former business maven to helm the city’s Human Resources Department.
On Thursday, Thomas swore in Rick Pogue as the Mount Vernon Human Resources Commissioner, making note that the newest member of his team “brings with him a wealth of experience serving at the top level of Fortune 500 companies,” that will benefit the city.
Pogue has enjoyed a storied career, serving as the Vice President of Human Resources at corporate companies such as Marvel Entertainment, the American Red Cross and Kaleida Health Services.
Thomas noted that the appointment of Pogue is a continuation of his attempts to bring top talent to Mount Vernon.
“Mount Vernon deserves to have the best and the brightest people serve them. Commissioner Pogue is a highly skilled individual with a storied career in the corporate world,” he said. “He knows the challenges Mount Vernon faces, and he knows how to modernize and develop practices that serve 21st Century needs.”
In a statement following the announcement of his appointment, Pogue said that he was ready to hit the ground running in an effort to turn around Mount Vernon’s recent fortunes.
“It’s an honor to come work in the city of Mount Vernon. I look forward to working for the people of Mount Vernon and with Mayor Thomas to move things forward with his vision,” he stated. “I am intrigued and energized by the challenges we face, and I am committed to becoming a strong, contributing member of his new team.”
