Among the most beloved Mount Vernonites to achieve such fame is entertainer and recording star Stephanie Mills. Perhaps best-known as an original cast member of the smash Broadway musical The Wiz in which she starred as the lead character Dorothy, Mills glowingly endorsed her longtime friend, Clinton Young, in his candidacy for Mayor.
The Mills and Young families have a long-standing friendship and Young has known Stephanie Mills since she was first cast in that breakout role. Mills stated, “I’m so happy to add my name to the list of those who support and endorse Clinton Young for Mayor of the city of Mount Vernon. He absolutely loves the city and no one takes more pride in its rich history. Clinton has done so much, particularly for our young people. He performed an amazing job before as mayor and I’m sure we can expect even greater accomplishments. As a former resident of Mount Vernon, who still has family there, I am confident that Clinton is the right person to lead the city. Love you, Stephanie Mills.”
