MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A woman was critically injured, and the infant she was holding was hurt, when a wild police chase ended in a smash-up in Mount Vernon, according to a report on lohud.com.

The driver, 18-year-old Yonkers resident Xavier Wilson, was fleeing from New York City Police who had tried to pull him over for speeding in the Bronx on Tuesday evening, the lohud.com report said.

Wilson, who had crashed his car into several other vehicles in Mount Vernon, and another passenger were arrested, and the injured woman and baby, who were in the back seat, were taken to the hospital, the lohud.com article said.

The crash happened near a church, a health center, and a park on the city's bustling Fourth Street.
