At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, 71-year-old Pleasantville resident Anthony Giorgio drove off an embankment on the Taconic, striking a guard rail near southbound exit 13 (Underhill Avenue / Croton-on-Hudson / Yorktown Heights), before traveling approximately 75 feet into the woods, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

Emergency responders from the Yorktown Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Empress Emergency Medical Services and the New York State Police were dispatched to the site of the crash, where Giorgio was pinned in his vehicle and unresponsive.

Giorgio would be pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed he was the only occupant of the vehicle following their investigation. The crash came on the heels of a similar incident in Mount Pleasant, where a motorist escaped death after striking a tree.
