Fire broke out in the three-story North Bond Street building shortly after 5 p.m., where it quickly spread, prompting response from the Yonkers, Mount Vernon, White Plains and Pelham Fire Departments.

It took nearly 50 firefighters from the three departments several hours to corral and eventually knock down the blaze. The upper two floors of the building are residential, while the ground floor is a commercial space.

No injuries have been reported, but at least one apartment in the building may not be salvageable. The upper floors of the building are residential, while the ground floor is a commercial space.

The two residents that were displaced are being assisted by volunteers with the American Red Cross. More than 20 neighbors living in the apartment building next door were evacuated, but were permitted to return to their building once the fire was extinguished.

According to reports, the tenant attempted to quell the fire for several minutes by dousing it with cups of water. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
