YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Two people were killed after a house fire broke out in the early morning hours Monday in Yorktown Heights..

The victims were a male and female elderly couple, Yorktown Police said. Their identities have not yet been released.

Firefighters from numerous agencies rushed to the scene on 1703 Central Street near Moseman Road at around 3 a.m. with reports of one or more people trapped inside.

The home quickly became engulfed by flames with heavy fire coming from the roof of the home.

Police said they received a 911 call at 2:58 a.m. saying a neighbor's house was on fire.

It took several hours for firefighters to control the blaze.

Firefighters from Lake Mohegan, Bedford Hills, Buchanan, Mount Kisco and Millwood assisted the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire investigators from the Cause and Origin team are conducting an investigation.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, Yorktown Police said.
