On Tuesday afternoon, three men driving a rented Chrysler were approached by a detective regarding a fraud investigation, when they subsequently rammed his vehicle, and sped off to New Rochelle before coming to a crashing halt in a Hill Street backyard.

The driver, Temel Clarke, a 19-year-old from Brooklyn, fled the crash scene before being apprehended by police several blocks away.

Clarke has been charged with misdemeanor counts of second degree criminal mischief – for the damages done to three backyards on Hill Street – second degree reckless endangerment and unauthorized use of a vehicle, because the car was a rental, but he wasn’t the registered driver.

A myriad of traffic and vehicle summonses were also issued to Clarke for his role in the police chase. He is set to arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Wednesday.

Kevin Blake, 21, also fled the scene, and was caught as he attempted to get into a cab, posing as a customer. He was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana for a small stash, and has been released with a desk appearance ticket.

According to police, the second passenger in the vehicle remains at large. Several iPads, iTunes cards and cell phones were seized from the vehicle as part of the larger fraud investigation.

All involved may face further charges regarding the initial fraud investigation that the detective originally approached their vehicle about. Additional charges are expected to be filed following the investigation.
