'Sexually Violent' Offender Moves To Mount Vernon Apartment

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - A registered “sexually violent” offender accused of having sex with a 7-year-old victim has moved to an apartment in Mount Vernon.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Tuesday to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 59-year-old Daniel Hammonds, who has moved to an apartment on Union Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Hammonds as a Level 2 threat, which means he is a "moderate risk of a repeat offense.” He was also designated as a sexually violent offender

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Hammonds had sexual contact with a 7-year-old girl in 1999. He was arrested by the Mount Vernon Police Department and sentenced to between one day and two years in prison. He remains under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
