RYE, N.Y. -- Late Thursday night, the Rye Police Department notified the Rye Central School District that a threat, directed at Rye High School students and posted to social media, had been investigated and found not to be credible, school officials confirmed in a statement sent to parents on Friday.

"While we understand the desire for more information, please be aware this is an active and ongoing police investigation,'' Rye Schools Superintendent Frank Alvarez wrote in a community email.

"In the event that the individual who made the threat is found to be a student, there are disciplinary procedures outlined in our District Code of Conduct that would apply,'' Alvarez wrote.

A copy of the Code of Conduct may be found on the Rye Central School District website.

In addition, the School District is bound by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) rules about privacy, Alvarez said.

In compliance with FERPA, the Rye Central School District would not be able to provide any specific information about disciplinary actions involving students.

"If students have any concerns related to the incident, please encourage them to speak to an adult they are comfortable with. Teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, psychologists and social workers are available to speak with them. Contact information is in the school directory and on the school web site,'' Alvarez said. "As always, our highest priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff. Thank you for your patience and support."
