RAMAPO, N.Y. -- One person was arrested after a fight broke out Friday night at Ramapo High School following the varsity boys basketball between rivals Spring Valley and Ramapo.
A responding Ramapo Police officer observed a large group rapidly exiting the gymnasium after arriving on the scene at around 7:30 p.m., and several dozen people running to the west side toward the football field. One officer observed about 10 people fighting between cars, and got herself between two males who were in a physical confrontation, according to Ramapo Police.
After breaking up the fight, one male remained loud and aggressive and continued posturing to fight the other male, according to police. The officer arrested and handcuffed the suspect who was immediately removed from the scene and transported to the station house for processing.
The remainder of the crowd was dispersed by officers.
RPD also responded to another location within the town to deter additional altercations after receiving intelligence information while operating at the scene.
The arrested person, whose name has not been released, was charged with disorderly conduct and released on an appearance ticket returnable to New Hempstead Court on a future date.
Spring Valley won the game, which started at 5:45 p.m., by a score 56-49.
