According to police, the task force seized 14 pounds of marijuana from Bronx resident Neville Peterson, 49 near the Mount Vernon-Bronx border. The drugs have a street value of approximately $60,000, police said.

An investigation was launched after the task force received a tip regarding a shipment of marijuana that was scheduled for delivery to a south side residence, police said.

Surveillance was arranged at the residence by members of the task force, officials said. Peterson was apprehended after he was observed taking a package of marijuana, police said. He was charged with a felony charge of criminal possession of marijuana.

Last Thursday, Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced that the city and county would team up to increase the number of uniformed officers patrolling the streets during the summer.

“We’re stepping up our efforts to become a more professional crime fighting department,” Davis said. “The joint crime fighting effort with the county police will help us in achieving that goal even more quickly. It sends a strong signal that this city’s crime fighting net extends beyond our borders.”
