Mt. Vernon Man Charged In Shooting Of Nypd Cop In Bronx

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. ? A 22-year-old Mount Vernon man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of an off-duty NYPD officer Thursday in the Bronx.

The officer, Juan Pichardo, was at a car dealership in the Bronx when Jeffrey Okine allegedly pulled out a handgun during an attempted robbery. Police said Okine shot Pichardo in the thigh but that Pichardo was able to wrestle him to the ground and disarm him.

Okine is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm, second-degree assault, menacing and criminal possession of stolen property. Four men from the Bronx face the same charges in connection with the incident.
