According to reports, Kadian Gilzeane, 28, pleaded guilty on June 11 in state Supreme Court to first-degree manslaughter in the Aug. 3, 2012 death.

Prosecutors said that Gilzeane gave birth that morning in the bathroom of her North 9th Avenue apartment. She cut the umbilical cord with scissors, wrapped the infant in plastic bags and put him under the sink.

Later that day, the defendant went to Mount Vernon Hospital and reported she suffered a miscarriage. Staff members at the hospital realized she had given birth and notified authorities.

The infant was found in two plastic bags in the apartment by investigating police. Gilzeane later admitted to the crime while still at the hospital.

Gilzeane is due back in court on July 23. She faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison.
