Shortly before 3:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, officers from the Orangetown Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Broadway and Main Street in Nyack, where there were multiple reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, officers reported that 35-year-old Mount Vernon resident Janel Carlton was still attempting to drive her car down the street, even though it had sustained heavy front-end damage and the tire was grinding against the fender of the vehicle.

Officers were able to stop Carlton, and it is alleged that she was operating her vehicle while she was intoxicated. After being arrested, Carlton failed a breathalyzer test at Orangetown Police Headquarters. She was subsequently arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. Carlton is due back in Nyack Justice Court on Nov. 14 to answer the charge.
