Mount Vernon To Swear In 20 Probationary Officers

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Twenty new probationary police officers will soon be patrolling the streets of Mount Vernon, after they are sworn in by Mayor Ernest Davis on Friday.

Davis will be with the 20 future officers at 11 a.m. on Friday on the steps of City Hall. This year’s class represents the largest group the police department has seen in several years.

Beginning on Monday, the new probationary police officers will begin 20 weeks of instruction at the Westchester County Police Academy in Valhalla.

Recruits include several Mount Vernon residents, with others coming from around Westchester County and the Bronx.

“Our goal is to bring professionalism and diversity to the police department,” Police Commissioner Terrance Raynor said. “A number of the probationary officers have college degrees and specialized training we can use as we move forward.”

The new probationary officers are:

Delfim Ferreira, Paul Cimaglia, LaMont Brown, Christopher Harris, Frank Stillo, Jason Carroll, Damoy Green, Ryan Hughes, Orville Kitson and Raphael Tarone, of Mount Vernon.
Michael Giusto, Jose Montessano, Joseph Sica, Sam Varghese and Sean McCormick, of Yonkers
Jonathan Castillo, and Brian Bamfo, of the Bronx.
Joshua Perez, of Elmsford.
Michael Paulson, of Buchanan.
Joseph Gelbman, of Peekskill.
