MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon Police Department is asking the community for information regarding a shooting that took place last week on the south side.
On Thursday night, officers that were patrolling near South Second Avenue and East Fourth Street when they heard gunshots at approximately 10 p.m. Later that night, a 24-year-old city resident was admitted to the hospital with minor gunshot wounds to his leg.

The incident comes just weeks after Mount Vernon entered into a partnership with the Westchester County Police Department to increase patrols in the city to help curb gun violence and other crimes.
