Mount Vernon Police Investigating Fake Cop That Entered Local Apartment

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - The search for a man that illegally claimed to be a police officer before invading a Mount Vernon apartment over the weekend continues as detectives investigate his false claims.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, police responded to a West Third Street apartment building after a woman claimed that an unknown man had knocked on her door and her 8-year-old son let him inside when he claimed to be an officer there on “official business.”

According to police, the man looked around the apartment for several minutes before leaving without taking anything when the homeowner asked to see his badge and identification. He is described as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall with a medium build and beard. He was wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants when he illegally entered the home.

There have been no similar instances recently in Mount Vernon. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information about the suspect impersonating a cop, they can call detectives anonymously at (914) 665-2500.
