Mount Vernon Police Investigating Daytime Shooting

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - A Mount Vernon man was gunned down while sitting in his car during a daytime shooting in the city on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, a 28-year-old man was shot in the neck near the intersection of South Fifth Avenue and West Fourth Street while he was alone in his BMW.

The victim would later be identified as Mario Freder. The shooting suspect is currently under investigation.

On Wednesday night, the Family Services of Westchester Project SNUG marched in Mount Vernon to encourage the community to “stop the violence and stop the shooting.”

According to city officials, Freder attempted to drive away after being struck with the bullet, but crashed into a parked car. The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Mount Vernon Police Department’s Detective Division at (914) 665-2500.
