MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Less than 24 hours after five police officers were killed in Dallas, authorities in Mount Vernon held active-shooter drills at Mount Vernon High School, according to News 12.

Citing communication as the best method to control the tensions that have led to violence against police, city officers formed have formed a coalition to develop relationships between police and the community, according to News 12.

Mayor Richard Thomas said Friday that the national tragedies of the past week should serve as reminders to local officers to always be professional and treat people respectfully, according to News 12.
