MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon police officer was injured over the weekend, when a taxi attempted to avoid a police checkpoint by speeding through, leading police on a wild chase that ended in the Bronx.
Mount Vernon police confirmed that a pair of officers were struck late on Friday night when the driver, whose identity has not yet been revealed, attempted to avoid a police checkpoint.
An injured officer was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. He has since returned to duty.
The taxi driver, who has several violations on his license, then took local and state police on a wild ride that concluded in Co-op City in the Bronx near Bartow Avenue. According to a News 12 report, an officer fired his weapon at the taxi but missed the target.
Mount Vernon police are in the process of determining which charges to levy against the driver.
