Mount Vernon Police Chief Announces Departure

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mount Vernon Police Chief John Roland told The Journal News Wednesday that he will be retiring.

Roland, whose last day will be Jan. 31, told Police Commissioner Terrance Raynor and Mayor Ernest Davis Monday that he was retiring for another position, Lohud reported.

Roland. is a 31 year veteran of the Mount Vernon Police Department, according to the city. He rose through ranks serving in variety of assignments including patrol officer, motorcycle officer, mayor’s security detail and street crime unit.

Roland was promoted to Chief of Police in May 2011.
