Mount Vernon Motorist Charged In Hit And Run After Striking Teen

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – A Mount Vernon man has been taken into custody after he was accused of striking a bicyclist with his car and fleeing from authorities over the weekend in the Bronx.

Kabiru Mohammed, 37, was driving on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday night when he made a turn, crossing over a double yellow line and striking the teenager, who was riding his bike police said.

Police confirmed that Mohammed then sped off, leaving his 13-year-old victim behind before he was apprehended several miles away, still in the borough.

The unidentified victim was subsequently transported to Jacobi Medical Center with a broken jaw, broken leg and injuries to his skull.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, though he remains in critical condition. Mohammed was charged with a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident.
