MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon will turn to its reserve fund to pay for training the firefighters it desperately needs, says Mayor Richard Thomas, according to a report by lohud.com.
According to the lohud report, Thomas wants to spend $300,000 to send six extra recruits to the county-run academy.
Five trainees are already covered by the 2016 budget, the lohud story said.
The move is not without opposition. According to lohud's story, the City Council president says Thomas does not have the right to use the reserve fund this way.
