According to police, shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system was triggered after an assailant fired 13 shots on South Bleeker Street.
The victim was found on Mount Vernon Avenue before he was taken into safety. He was subsequently taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and police say he is in stable condition.
This is the second time the victim has been a victim of violence this year in Mount Vernon, police said. Police added that he was stabbed in April at a North Third Avenue catering hall. The two incidents are not believed to be connected.
