Jones, 24, was convicted in 2014 on felony counts of second-degree kidnapping, and a pair of first- and second-degree robbery charges after he abducted his victim and drove him around for several hours attempting to get money from various ATMs.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2013, shortly after midnight, the victim drove two friends to a West First Street market, and while they were in the store, he was approached by two males, Jones and a suspect that was not apprehended, according to a statement from Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore’s Office.
Brandishing a firearm, Jones got into the passenger’s seat, his associate in the back seat and “the defendant told the victim, in sum and substance, that he, the victim, must have money, since he drove a Lexus.”
The victim was then ordered at gunpoint to go to several JP Morgan Chase Bank ATMs in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon to withdraw money. With a pending paycheck limiting how much money could be taken out of the account, the victim was then tied up and thrown in the trunk.
The two then drove around for several hours before taking him out and repeating the request to take money out of ATMs. In total, approximately $1,000 was taken over the course of eight hours. Jones also took the victim’s cell phone and Social Security card.
Less than a week later, Jones was positively identified by the victim using a photo array. He was subsequently arrested following questioning by Mount Vernon police officers.
