MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – A Mount Vernon man was arrested by the FBI agents on Tuesday and accused of social media threats to harm police officers.
With the nation struggling with tension between the African-American community and law enforcement, Jeremy Mott, 24, was accused of posting a series of messages on Instagram and Facebook threatening officers just days after a pair of NYPD officers were gunned down in cold blood in Brooklyn last month.
The FBI announced on Tuesday that Mott was taken into custody after the messages were flagged by Westchester County law enforcement officials and passed along to federal authorities.
Mott was charged with one felony count of making interstate threats, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
