A longtime criminal is facing life in prison after being found guilty of attempting to stab a Westchester County Police officer who intervened when he was attempting to steal rims from a car dealership in Mount Kisco.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced that 54-year-old Ronald Clare Greenland of Mount Vernon has been found guilty to multiple charges and is due to be sentenced to a term between 40 years and life in state prison in December.

According to Scarpino, at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, a Westchester County police officer was conducting an inspection of the dealership when he noticed a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking lot.

The officer approached the Honda Odyssey minivan as it left the property, and Greenland failed to pull over, continuing onto Knowlton Avenue before fleeing on foot. Greenland was chased through multiple backyards before he was caught on Dickson Lane in Bedford.

During the struggle between the two men, Greenland struck the arresting officer multiple times and attempted to stab him before he was subdued and taken into custody.

Greenland was found guilty of individual counts of attempted murder, attempted assault, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police siad that Greenland has a lengthy criminal history and has twice been deported to his native Jamaica for his role in a car theft ring. He is due back in court on Dec. 19 for sentencing.
