Mount Vernon Man Charged With Auto Theft

YONKERS, N.Y. -- George B. Smith, a 25-year-old Mount Vernon resident, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree on Saturday, May 23, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers patrolling the Sprain Brook Parkway in the area of mile post marker 3.4 observed a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the Parkway and a male throwing items into a wooded area. The vehicle, a 1998 Honda Civic, operated by Smith, was reported stolen in New Rochelle. Smith was disposing of the registered owner’s personal items from vehicle, according to police.

The State Police were assisted by the New Rochelle Police Department.

Smith was arraigned in the City of Yonkers Court and remanded to the Westchester County jail without bail.  He is scheduled to re-appear in Yonkers Court on Tuesday, June 2.
