Man Charged After Woman Escapes From Alleged Kidnapper On I-87

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 39-year-old man has been apprehended and charged with kidnapping a woman who managed to escape from his car on the New York State Thruway in Sloatsburg, according to state police.

Rasheed, McKenith abducted a woman against her will in Newark on April 30, state police said. The woman was unharmed after escaping from the vehicle and seeking help from passing motorists, according to state police.

McKenith fled the area at the time, police said.

Interviews with witnesses at the scene and information obtained from the Newark Police Department led to his arrest.

McKenith, who was charged with kidnapping in the second degree, was arraigned in the Village of Sloatsburg Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu $25,000.00 cash bail.
