Investigation Continues Into Mount Vernon Elevator Shaft Death

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon police are still investigating how a construction worker fell to his death in an elevator shaft while working on Gramatan Avenue on Wednesday.

According to reports, the 28-year-old New York City day laborer was cleaning up his tools at the end of his shift, when he slipped, falling more than 50 feet down the elevator shaft before landing on an elevator car several stories below.

The victim was pronounced dead by first responders at the scene of the accident.

As of Friday morning, the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office had not identified the victim, who suffered blunt trauma injuries and a skeletal fracture.
