MOUNT VERNON N.Y. Four people were shot outside Garden Bar in Mount Vernon after attending a party early Tuesday morning, Mayor Ernie Davis office said in a press release.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting and found one female and two male victims when they arrived to the 766 South Fifth Avenue nighttime establishment, the mayors office said. A fourth victim was located shortly after following treatment at an area hospital, according to the release.
Of the victims, a 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper leg and femoral artery, and was sent to surgery at Jacobi Medical Center, the release said. Another 32-year-old man had a graze wound to his right thigh from a bullet that is believed to have bounced off of him, the mayors office said. A 17-year-old female had a gunshot wound to her left thigh, right calf muscle and broken femur or thigh bone, according to the release. A 38-year-old man had a gunshot wound to his left arm, the mayors release said.
Two victims remain in the hospital. Mount Vernon police detectives are investigating the case.
Recently we have seen an increase in New York City party promoters coming into Mount Vernon, said Davis in the release. While there is no evidence at this time of this being the case in last nights shootings, there have been too many incidences of this being the case this summer.
Davis said that Mount Vernon will not become an avenue to violence in substitution of money.
We want to send the message that Mount Vernon will not be the path of least resistance for those eager to seek retribution or those ready to make a fast buck, Davis said in the statement.
Davis also said safety at functions around the city will also be enforced.
We will vigorously monitor these types of parties that reduce quality of life in this community, Davis said in the statement.
The mixture of guns and alcohol are a lethal combination a mixture we already have too much of and the results of which Mount Vernon bears the burden of overcoming negative publicity," he said. "Were calling on the community to help us monitor these types of activities so that we can prevent possible tragic outcomes that erode at our quality of life.
