MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – An investigation has been launched in Mount Vernon after a women was found dead in a police department holding cell on Monday.
Officials from the Westchester County District Attorney’s office and Mount Vernon Police Department are investigating how the victim died while in custody.
The 43-year-old woman’s name has not been released yet as the investigation continues. She was arrested last week on a petit larceny charge and was awaiting arraignment, according to officials with the District Attorney’s office.
The results of an autopsy from the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death is pending. Keep following the Mount Vernon Daily Voice, as more information is expected to be released in the next few days.
