Alquane Atkinson, 17, of Mount Vernon was arrested last week and charged with first-degree attempted assault after firing the gun at his grandmother and grazing her leg with the bullet. He allegedly also robbed a cab driver earlier in the week, officials stated. Additional charges against Atkinson include attempted assault and attempted robbery.

Atkinson was subsequently arrested and his grandmother was transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital for treatment. According to a News12 report, Atkinson stole $4,000 from his grandparents, prompting them to kick him out, leading to the shooting incident.

Following his arrest, Atkinson was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is due back to answer the charges later this year.

The investigation into the assault and robbery is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact detectives at the Mount Vernon Police Department by calling (914) 665-2510.
