Mount Vernon Resident Unaffected By Obama Visit

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Westchester residents, many on their way to begin Labor Day weekend festivities, experienced road closures on I-684, I-95 and I-287 Friday as President Barack Obama attended fundraisers in New Rochelle and Purchase.

Unfortunately for motorists, road closures will continue on Saturday as the president makes his way to and from a wedding at Blue Hills at Stone Barn in Pocantico Hills.

Some residents took to social media complain about traffic conditions, and what they called the president's lack of consideration for Labor Day traffic.

"The standstill traffic outside of KHPN (airport plane tracking service) has gotten so bad that people are out of their cars and conversing in the middle of 684," Tweeted Kieran Roberts.

On the street, Westchester residents expressed mix feelings about the closures.

"I don't really have an opinion on it," said Erin Heaton-Meyer of Armonk. "If he has to go to a wedding, he has to go to a wedding."

Barry McGoey of Yonkers said while he's sure the president doesn't have time for sight-seeing, he wishes he would take time to visit some of the county's cities and see how they've been affected by the poor economy.

Bill Wood of Mount Vernon said he wasn't worried about the traffic because he wasn't traveling far for the holiday.

"I feel bad for anyone trying to travel on those highways," he said.
