After a long and arduous process of public hearings regarding the Zoning Board of Appeals Calendar No. 1704-Z (R.J. Luiso Industries/Robert J. Luiso) 8 Alden Place, the ZBA voted unanimously on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 to approve the applicant’s requested variances for the development of a 4 family, 5 story building on private property that was designated as a playground since the 1930’s, in spite of overwhelming opposition and public comments from the residents of Alden Place and the surrounding homeowners of Gramatan Avenue.
It was clear from the less than 5 minute “deliberation” process by the ZBA board members that their decision was made well in advance of the “deliberation” and without absolutely any consideration for those residents who will be affected by the construction process and the overall detriment of this unnecessary and unwanted building project in our tranquil community.
Outside of the legal team representing Mr. Luiso, there wasn’t one single individual who spoke in support or in favor of this application. So the obvious question remains: “Who supported this application and for what basis were variances granted to build a 4 family, 5 story building in the center of a planned community that was originally constructed in the 1920’s?”
For “The City That Believes” Mount Vernon residents of Alden Place can only believe that the ZBA board members obviously had one supporter of the application in the background with a “silent,” but loud and very influential voice.
I rest my case.
