MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Leaster (Jack) Hall, formerly of Mount Vernon, died May 10. He was 89.

Rev. Hall was born June 5, 1924, in Nashville, N.C. He attended Nash County schools. In 1942, he joined the United States Army and was discharged in 1946. He opened two dry cleaners and a laundromat in Mount Vernon with his brother, Weldon. He sold Mount Vernon Cleaners and retired to Wilson, N.C., in 1985.

He joined Grace Baptist Church under the Reverend Shelton E. Doles. In 1979, he was called to the ministry and ordained under the Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson of Grace Baptist Church. Rev. Hall was called to pastor Union Hill Baptist Church in, Nashville, N.C., in 1987. From 1998 to 2003, he pastored Mount Vernon Baptist Church also in Nashville until his retirement. He re-joined, Red Oak Grove under Rev. Dr. J.B. Woodhouse where he served as an associate minister until he and his wife relocated to New Jersey.

Rev. Hall  is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dempsey; children, Renard Hall (Irene) of Detroit, Mich., Deborah Hall-Pope (Bill) of Lorton, Va.., and Karen Lofton (Rodney) of Trenton, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Onysha Norfleet (Brian) of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Odessa Hall, Mable Hall and Beulah Braswell; nieces, nephews; family; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Pearlie Todd and Weldon Hall; siblings, Armensia, Weldon, Christine, James, Senora, and Donnie; and son, Brian Norfleet.

Calling hours are Friday, May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Red Oak Grove Baptist Church in Stanhope, N.C. Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Forbes Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wilson, N.C.
