Nunziata 'Nancy' Panaro, 94, Mount Vernon Native

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Nunziata "Nancy" Panaro, 94, of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, Sept. 23. 

She was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Mount Vernon and raised in the Bronx. 

She worked as a waitress for many years at Crown Coffee Shop in Mount Vernon. While living in Poughkeepsie, she was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church and was active with social activities at St. Simeon in Poughkeepsie. She was a former president of its tenants' association. 

Survivors include her sons, Nicholas Panaro and his wife Lisa and Peter Panaro and his wife Susan; grandchildren, Christopher and Victor Di Fate, Peter Panaro Jr., Natalie Stack and Danielle, Lori and Joseph Panaro; and great-grandchildren, Aiden and Gabriella Stack and Zola and Xavier Di Fate. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Panaro; daughter, Roseanne Di Fate; sisters, Madeline, Mary, Fannie, Tessie and Carrie; and brothers, James, Anthony, Ralph and Sal. 

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lagrange Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
