Norma Veronica Neita Howard, 74, Of Mount Vernon, Education Advocate

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Norma Veronica Neita Howard, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, March 3. She was 74.

Howard was born May 16, 1938, in Jamaica, West Indies, to Pearlyn and Osmond Neita. She lived in Jamaica from her youth and moved to the United States during her high school years. She went on to earn a degree in social work from City University of New York.

Howard worked for many years in the library at SUNY Purchase. She was an integral part of the Amani Public Charter School community. In 2012, she was honored by the Mount Vernon PTA Council for her contributions to the Amani community.

Howard is survived by her mother, Pearlyn Neita, three children, their spouses and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Osmond and husband Edward.

Calling hours are Friday, March 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Ave., Mount Vernon. Funeral services are Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
