Nathan Joseph Groccia, 93, Of Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Nathan Joseph Groccia, 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away Aug. 8, 2015.

He was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Brooklyn, to Angelo and Pierina Groccia.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marion in 2014. He married the love of his life in January 1957. He also is survived by his children, Robert (Margaret), Charles (Milagros) and Richard (Margaret); grandchildren, Steven, Amanda, Nicholas, Carolyn, Jeanette, Valerie, Kady, Richard and Tricia; sister, Nancy Scardino; and sisters-in-law, Lee Groccia, Adrienne Martimucci and Carol Groccia.

He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Albert and Joseph.

Groccia proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-45 and was awarded two Purple Hearts.

He worked for 39 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.

Groccia was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Italian Civic Association and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He actively participated in local Veteran Affairs and Italian Cultural Activities and was an avid sports fan with particular interest in the NFL.

The family will honor his life from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Ave., Mount Vernon.

There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Church, 28 W. Sidney Ave., Mt Vernon.
