Breaking News: Father Charged With Murder In Death Of Mount Vernon Toddler

Melchiorre Vitaliano, 90, Mt. Vernon WWII Veteran

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Melchiorre "Mitch" Vitaliano of Mount Vernon died Sept. 27. He was 90.

Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Mount Vernon, he was the son of George and Antoinette Vitaliano. He served in the Navy during World War II and was married to Esther Vitaliano for 59 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors are two children, Mitch (Barbara) Vitaliano Jr. and Michele (Doug) Cooper; a brother, George Vitaliano; a sister, Rose Falco, and six grandchildren. Vitaliano was predeceased by two sisters, Christina and Anne; and two brothers, Frank and John.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Yannantuono Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Mount Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at 1-800-873-6983 to donate directly to Melchiorre Vitaliano's Fund.
