MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mary Chacko of Mount Vernon died Saturday, Dec. 13. She was 88.
Chacko was born in Kanjirapally, Kerala, India, in 1926, to C.J. and Rose Thomas. She earned her B.A. in English Literature at Indraprastha College, Delhi University. After her marriage she moved with her husband to the United States in 1950. They lived in Manhattan and Queens, before moving to Mount Vernon in 1967. She was a member of the U.N. Women's Guild. She began a work career as a real estate agent.
Chacko is survived by her children, Eapen (Barbara), Nina and Thomas; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, M.E. Chacko
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday, Dec. 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at St. Catharine's Church, Pelham.
