Edgar G. Shute, Jr., 90, Retired Mount Vernon Fire Department Employee

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Edgar G. Shute Jr., a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, died Nov. 5. He was 90.

Shute was born Oct. 28, 1923, in the Bronx, son of Edgar G. Shute and Edwina Frankenberg Shute. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1985 from the City of Mt. Vernon Fire Department after 33 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Bronx/New Rochelle Elks Lodge; past exalted ruler. He volunteered at the Veterans Hospital and was a bell ringer during the holiday season for The Salvation Army.

Shute is survived by his children, Edgar G. (Laura) Shute III, James C. (Linda) Shute, Jessica J. (David) Gionet and Carol S. (Anthony) Rozzi; five grandchildren; a great grandson; and sisters, Edwina Synder and Jessie Degenhardt. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Jeanne Shute;  son, Thomas William Shute; and sister, Theresa Balcom.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Yannantuono Burr Sharp Davis Funeral Home. Burial will take place Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shute’s memory may be made to The Salvation Army.
