Cara Alexander Kealy, 43, Realtor, Of Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Cara Sheridan Alexander Kealy, a Mount Vernon resident and Bronxville real estate broker, died Jan. 25 of breast cancer. She was 43.

Kealy was born Feb. 3, 1969, in Seattle to Doris and Raymond Alexander. She graduated from Oak Hall Academy in Gainesville, Fla., in 1987 and from Boston College in 1991. She received a master's degree s in psychology from the University of Florida in 1992.

She married Sean Kealy on May 25, 1994, after meeting him on an intramural rugby team at Boston College. They settled in Mount Vernon in 2000.

Kealy served on the advisory board at the Chapel School in Bronxville for more than six years. She also enjoyed volunteering in the school library and in her sons' classrooms.

She worked as an associate real estate broker at Bronxville-Ley Real Estate since 2001. She earned multiple awards and commendations including the Diamond Award in 2005, Quality Service Certified Platinum Award in 2007, Summit Sales Award in 2003 and  Medallion Sales Award in 2002.

She was the top producer for Bronxville-Ley in 2005 and was named one of Westchester County’s top realtors by Westchester WAG Magazine in 2006.

Kealy was first diagnosed with breast cancer in late 1999. As a member of the Junior League of Bronxville, she first served on the Cancer Support Team committee. She later founded and served as chairwoman of the Breast Cancer Awareness committee.

She was involved with the Jeanne A. Petrek Breast Cancer Walk and acted as a facilitator with the Bereavement Center of Westchester’s "Treehouse" program. In 2008, she served as the first director of Community Oncology Alliance Patient Advocacy Network.

Kealy was named keynote speaker for the 2007 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City. She also spoke about her life as a guest on the Rosie O’Donnell Show, Good Morning America and Ricki Lake in the early 2000s.

Kealy is survived by two sons, Harrison and Declan; her mother; a sister, Evyn Alexander; her mother-in-law, Christine; a sister-in-law, Courtney; a brother-in-law, Benjamin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her husband, Sean Fitzgerald Kealy, died on Sept. 4, 2011. Her father also predeceased her.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, at Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Reformed Church of Bronxville.
