BREWSTER, N.Y. - Alvin Theophilus Dixon of Brewster, formerly of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., died Saturday, March 9. He was 79.
Dixon was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Monymusk, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to Urcelline and Edgar Dixon. He attended St. Mary’s All Age School, in Monymusk. He attended college and decided to pursue a career in law enforcement; a career that lasted for 16 years.
He later moved to America to be with his wife and children. With an extensive educational background, he began working as the director of the Safe Deposit department at Chase Manhattan Bank for 25 years. Before moving to Brewster in 1979, Dixon and his family resided in Mt. Vernon.
Dixon is survived by his wife, Mavis; daughters, Sharon and Sandra Dixon; son, Donovan Dixon; sisters, Sylvia Mitchell, Dorothy Sharpe, Ruby Edwards; three grandchildren, other grandchildren, great-grand child; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be Friday, March 15, 4 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home , 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, N.Y. Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 16, 11 a.m., Rev. Wesley Shand will be officiating at First United Methodist Church of Brewster, 81 Main St., Brewster, N.Y. Interment in Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster, N.Y.
