Samuel Rivers, who woke late Friday to see his car in flames, said he believes it was done on purpose because of all the work he's done exposing corruption. A spokeswoman for Mayor Richard Thomas said those claims are false and an attempt to keep Thomas from his job changing the old ways of Mount Vernon government, lohud.com reports.

Police said they are investigating the fire as suspicious. Rivers said he could see the car fire from his Rockledge Avenue home, lohud.com says.
