Jeremy Reichberg and his friend, real estate mogul Jona Rechnitz, are the subjects of a joint FBI-NYPD probe of an alleged gifts-for-favors scheme, according to multiple media reports.
Reichberg, a well-known leader in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, was suspended from his volunteer post with the county’s Department of Public Safety earlier this month, media reports said.
County Police Commissioner George N. Longworth, citing state privacy laws, refused to discuss Reichberg’s residency or educational background in public when asked to by county legislators, the lohud.com report said.
Longworth had been quoted in the past as saying Reichberg had graduated from rabbinical college and was a rabbi, but the name of that college has not been revealed, the lohud.com story said.
Longworth said that volunteers don’t have to meet certain residency or other requirements as part of their jobs, therefore, he said, their information is private, lohud.com reported.
