MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. ? Six street fairs planned for Mount Vernon in August and September were given the go-ahead by the City Council at its meeting Wednesday night:
The Recreation Department was given approval to co-sponsor a "Community Event Day" Saturday, Aug. 11.
Filomena Popoli, owner of Cafe Europa, was granted permission to close Gramatan Avenue between North Street and E. Sidney Avenue on Friday, Aug. 17, for an Italian Festival.
Allen Memorial Church received permission to close C. Altschuler Place on Saturday, Aug. 18, for a church event.
Mount Calvary C.M.E. Church was given permission to close S. 2nd Avenue between E. 1st and E. 2nd streets on Sunday, Sept. 2, for a church event.
Greater Centennial A.M.E. Church was given the okay to hold a "Back to School with Christ" rally and street fair on Saturday, Sept. 8.
And the Recreation Department was given approval to co-sponsor the Arts On Third Festival on Sunday, Sept. 16.
