'Sexually Violent' Offender Reports Move Within Mount Vernon

A registered "sexually violent" and "predicate sex" offender accused of sodomizing and raping a woman more than three decades ago has reported an address change in Westchester County.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Tuesday to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 63-year-old Walter Kearney, who has moved to an apartment on South 2nd Avenue in Yonkers.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Kearney a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent and predicate sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Kearney had deviate sexual intercourse with his victim in May 1984, using a knife or cutting instrument as a weapon. He was arrested by the Mount Vernon City Police Department on rape and sodomy charges and sentenced to between 10 and 20 years in state prison in September 1985. He remains under the jurisdiction of police in Mount Vernon.
