'Sexually Violent' Offender Reports Move In Mount Vernon

A registered "sexually violent" offender convicted of attempted rape has reported an address change in Westchester County.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Thursday to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 36-year-old Michael Smith, who has moved to an apartment on Rich Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Smith as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Smith committed attempted rape in February 2004 and was arrested by the White Plains Police Department Detective Division. He was convicted a month later and sentenced to 42 months in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon City Police Department.
