The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Tuesday to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 39-year-old Carey Pettiford, who has moved to an apartment on South 11th Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Pettiford as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Pettiford sexually abused a 23 and 17-year-old woman in 2003, having deviate sexual intercourse and sexual contact with the strangers. He was convicted the following year. Pettiford was arrested by the Yonkers City Police Department SOR Unit and sentenced to 78 months in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon City Police Department.
